Hibernate Shortcut
« on: September 27, 2005, 06:48:42 am »
1. Right click on the Desktop.
2. Select New -> Shortcut.
3. Add the following:
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState
4. Click Next.
5. Type whatever name you'd like...I use Hibernate.
6. Click Next and the icon appears on your Desktop.

I also recommend changing the icon for it, as the default is lame.

1. Right click your new shortcut on the Desktop.
2. Select Properties.
3. Click the 'Change Icon...' button.
4. Select *almost* any .dll file or .exe to look for good icons. I recommend using:
%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
5. In the path above, I use the computer with a moon on it (7 over, 1 down) in the list of icons.

It took me a while to find a good link on how to make a hibernation shortcut, as I use it alot at college (cause most of my classes are 2 hours long and i don't feel like leaving the comp on all that time...would rather have it cooled down for CS:S and whatnot)

I have hibernate disabled, because Windows has never really been able to handle powering back up really well.  Is XP any different?  If so, I might turn hibernate on, so that I won't destroy my power supply since I leave my computer on 24/7.
