Plan: Ok, this week I will use only Internet Explorer.

Purpose: To see how much spyware IE picks up.

Rules:
1) I will only use Internet Explorer
2) I will not use the Google toolbar
3) I can only run Spybot and Ad-Aware at the end of the week
4) I am not allowed to clear my temp, cookies or history
5) I cannot use Firefox for anything
6) I will use Internet Explorers default settings
7) I cant download any type of *.exe files or any other file type that may contain spyware

Internet Explorer Version: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158

I opened up a blog so I dont spam this board with the progress:

Nice plan. I had tons of spyware when I used only IE for a month and didn't download any .exe files.

This sounds fun. Can't join though. Family computer with people who use AOL. My sister is on ForeFox. I like to use Firefox. When I get internet on my own PC, i'll join in the quest!

Be careful. Don't do any random searches because there is a nasty new virus out there that Norton can't fix yet. I know because I have it and cannot get rid of the vile thing. It re-writes all sorts of trojans whether I'm on the Internet or not, so I have to reformat soon. Just a friendly warning.

I doubt you'll end up with much, if any, spyware.  Getting spyware depends on who you are, in that I could use IE for months, visiting the sites I normally visit, without ever getting spyware.  However, there are people who see things like "CLIZCK HEIER KIDZ!!1! FREE SMIELIES TOOLBAR!!!!", click on them, and end up with spyware in an instant.

I ended up with a ton of spyware when I used IE when I only went to message boards and sites like this on it.

That's odd.  I use IE on a near daily basis on some pretty sketchy sites and don't end up with spyware.

Well, after 4 days, my computer is running slower and there are lots of processes running (43 now and 33 before). WeatherBug started booting up at startup as well as Memory Meter. I have around 3 tool bars.
