Why Is My Computer So Slow?

I've deleted every unwanted program. I do virus scan checks all the time and it finds no virus'. Its even slow when I'm offline. Could too many files (pictures, music etc) be the problem?

I've done the same with mine. And I don't even have a lot of things on it. Hardly any pictures, no music..whatever. And my computer is still the slowest I've ever witnessed. I'm pretty sure it's because of its age. It's over 10 years old.

You're probably either loading up on spyware, or running out of memory. Try downloading Ad-aware 6.0 or Spybot 1.3.

And if that doesn't work... buy a RAM chip and if you can find a CompUSA... they'll install it.

What are your computer specs? Do you run lots of programs at the same time?

Maybe it is because you have a high amount of hard drive space. I have 114 GB, so y PC runs very slow. I've used about 30. Maybe, you have Spyware or something, or mybe it's old?

It used to be slow for me, with only 64mb. I have 256mb now. My comp is 4-5 years old.

Hard drive space has nothing to do with computer speed. My friend has a 160GB and it's faster than mine that has the exact same specs, but just a 40GB. O.o

Sorry I didnt update you guys. My computer is running normally again. I downloaded the software Nick advised at it cleared all my spyware (there was alot.) That was the cause. Thanks everyone.

boooooo! I'm still with my 64mb running with XP lol..I wish I could afford to buy some stuff for it or even a new one at that...anyone feel like sending me money?! You should feel bad and sympathetic to me. :sad:
