Region free, eh? If I get one of these, maybe I'll finally look into importing games. Now if I only knew Japanese.....

A video game system shouldn't sell for $500 to $600.

In time, they will. Techingly gets better, things get more expensive (Even older/basic technoligies). You can't sell it  for much less then what it costs to make.

A better way to put it. Sony a while ago, labeled it as an Entertainment System.

Sony is still going to be marketing it as a gaming system.

A video game system doesn't need that advanced of a technology. Graphics don't matter.

Exactly.  Nintendo is the only video game console maker left.  The others are going for the "entertainment system" approach.

That's what causes their prices to be higher.  They spend a lot more money on the creation of some system to try to replace all the other electronic equipment in the living room, then they have to pass that cost on to the buyer.

Nintendo focuses on one thing: gaming.  That keeps their system prices lower.

Last time a system sold for $500+, it was the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer.  We all see how that turned out...

And that was a time when video games weren't as mainstream as they are now.

Honestly...I know lots of people that bought the 360 in bundles: nobody got the base one. They all paid 700$ for a bundle.

And btw, the NES = Nintendo Entertainment System...lmao

Everyone's going for an entertainment push...even nintendo...

it's just that they don't sell their dvd player with their system...

IZ you big unNerd. graphics matter just as much as anything else. I mean yeah mario is a classic game, for example. but SNES mario was way better looking and imho, more apppealing, than NES mario. the mario all-stars cartridge roxored :p.

I agree with kevin on graphics. NES is still unbeaten in today's world. We don't need anything better than what a GameCube can take in, graphics-wise.

Every couple of generations, mass graphics update is needed to keep the field-3D games intact, and expanded.

I'll give you the first one.

The second...well...that's just getting too technical.  The definiton of "entertainment system" has changed since 1985, buddy.

$500?  holy crap.  to advertise it as a video game, and then say its $500?
