Exactly. Nintendo is the only video game console maker left. The others are going for the "entertainment system" approach.
That's what causes their prices to be higher. They spend a lot more money on the creation of some system to try to replace all the other electronic equipment in the living room, then they have to pass that cost on to the buyer.
Nintendo focuses on one thing: gaming. That keeps their system prices lower.
Last time a system sold for $500+, it was the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer. We all see how that turned out...
